🌙 After a calm night, no rain or storm, we packed up camp — still a bit messy, we'll improve.
Then we put on our boots for a first hike together, just to calibrate the rhythms, the gear, and the layers of clothing.
(We'd never really walked together before... we might as well do it with the wind in our faces.)
🌧️ The Faroes are not known for their tropical climate: planning for rain is essential.
In 95% of cases, we will be right.
And for the remaining 5 %, we will be treated to a little drizzle just for the folklore.
🥾 The short but steep hike leads straight to Risin og Kellingin, our two petrified friends from yesterday.
And there… wow.
Despite the grayness, the panorama is striking: cliffs, ocean, rocks standing like stone guardians.
But the rest of the day looks set to be wet. Very wet.
🎨 Gabrielle will not be able to draw or paint, and even seeing something would be a miracle.
So we change course: find a dry, warm place, and take advantage of it to move forward on other aspects of the project.
🧭 Heading to Vestmanna, making a detour via Gjógv, two key spots in the Faroe Islands:
Gjógv: A tiny, colorful village north of Eysturoy, famous for its natural gorge (which gives it its name) and its grass-roofed houses. A picture-postcard setting. Vestmanna: Known for its dramatic sea cliffs, accessible by boat (but not today), and for its more sheltered atmosphere on the west side.
🚙 We're rolling slowly but surely.
The rain hits the windows, the kettle boils, and the notebook fills up.
