Unlike in 2016, this time we decided to continue driving along this chaotic track. It's as rutted as it is splendid, with each pothole seeming to hide a panorama more impressive than the last. We sometimes wonder if, at high tide, the road doesn't completely disappear beneath the waves.
The landscapes are incredible: narrow passages between immense rocks, contrasts of mineral and marine colors, and this feeling of driving at the edge of the world.
After this epic drive, we finally reach Reykjafjarðarlaug Hot Pool, a hot spring in the heart of nature. Here, travelers have two options: a landscaped pool built in the 1970s, fed by a geothermal source, and a few meters further, a natural "wild" pool dug directly into the earth and lined with stones. The water, around 36–40°C, is perfect for recovering after a day of driving or hiking. This place is a little secret of the Westfjords, still very popular with locals.
We decide to spend the night there, between comfort and warm steam. A few locals, clearly regulars, extend the evening by enjoying the natural pool for a long time, in an atmosphere both simple and magical.
