This morning, the wind is still blowing strongly - it's time to catch your breath, so it's a recovery day.
The morning is dedicated to a visit to the Westfjords Heritage Museum, housed in one of the oldest half-timbered houses in Isafjörður. The museum invites you to discover the rich maritime history of the fjords, with its period boats, whale harpoons, an impressive collection of accordions, and traditional craft workshops, thus perpetuating the local artisanal heritage.
After a quick lunch at the guesthouse, Gabrielle rests and draws, while I set off to explore the town on foot. Ísafjörður is intriguing: nestled at the end of the Skutulsfjörður fjord, surrounded by imposing mountains, it blends colorful wooden housing with modern amenities, while also hosting festivals (rock, music, skiing, etc.), cultural institutions like the University of the Westfjords, and a cultural center housed in the old hospital.
Later, I settle into the only cafe open today to finalize our road map. In the evening, another coffee shop visit is in order after doing some laundry: tomorrow, we'll leave this untouched region and hit the road again.
