This last day in the Faroe Islands begins with an unexpected detour to Elduvík, a village nestled at the end of a green valley, lined with colorful houses on either side of its small river.
Here stands the statue of the Marmennilin, a mischievous little merman with endless fingers, according to local legend. He lives at the bottom of the sea, where he likes to tease fishermen by unhooking their bait or throwing their hooks back into the water. One day, he got caught on one of them and was brought aboard—there, the sailors made the sign of the cross and kept him. As long as they repeated this ritual gesture, he brought them luck by making the boat laugh whenever the fish passed underneath.
Back in Tórshavn, we spent the afternoon in peace at an Irish pub—watercolors, phone calls, and a well-deserved meal before boarding.
But surprise: the ferry has been changed again, now scheduled for 3 a.m....
Goodbye tranquility, hello ultra-short night, but with a cabin this time.
Next news: probably from Iceland
